Is it necessary to introduce Rough Trade? Not really, so let's talk a bit more about the people in the Williamsburg shop. We had the privilege to meet Andy & George (Store Managers) and spend an hour talking about our long-term project but also about the music industry today and the vision they have specifically looking at the younger generations.
Their input was important because it helped us seeing and understanding the record industry from a different perspective. Their approach has always been the same for nearly 40 years now: "More than a record shop, the objective has always been to create a meeting space, in order to reduce the distance between artists and their audiences". This really makes sense to us, especially with the raise of digital and dematerialization of music experience.
The store selection is "generalist" but having the chance to visit their shops in the UK on a regular basis, you can feel the Rough Trade touch in this one too!
Thanks guys for your time!
Ps: The in-store "production tools" corner is very cool!
